December 11

The blog-a-thon topic for the day is Weepy Wednesday.

That's a tough one.  I am not a very weepy person.  If there are tears, I am very, very upset.  Like, the sky-is-falling upset.

I wrote this blog post over the summer about an episode of The Simpsons that gets the tears going.

Also, one of my favorite Roy songs is about this very topic:

Lovely

Gillian at A Daft Scots Lass has given to me the Lovely Blog Award.  Awesome.  Thank you very, very much.  I started reading the Lass's blog during the challenge in July and really dig her sense of humor and sass and am a bit envious of her awesome red hair.  She has a great 100 Things About Me that you should probably check out.

Here's the dealy-o:
  • Add the "One Lovely Blog Award" image to your post
  • Share seven things about you
  • Pass the award on to seven nominees
  • Thank the person who nominated you and add a short blurb about them
  • Inform the nominees by posting on their blogs

Sharing is caring...

1.  I hate scary movies.  I fainted in the movie theater when I saw The Sixth Sense.
2.  I have been a vegetarian for fifteen years.
3.  Most days I leave the house with mismatched socks, I've learned to let that go...
4.  I don't understand the concept of "having a good cry."
5.  I was born with cold in my bones. I am always freezing and have icy hands and feet.
6.  When Bobaloo and I first checked out Colorado I told him I would never move here.
7.  If I am really comfortable around you, I'll bust out my Carlton dance.

I pass this here award onto these peeps*:

* I know bloggy awards are not everyone's cup of tea (I love them!), so just know I dig your blog.

Come back Hugh!

One of my favorite comic strips Crimes Against Hugh's Manatees is going on hiatus and now I feel a void in my morning.  That might be a little dramatic, but you should still go over there and check out the archives.  I can always find something that gives me a good chuckle.  Here are a few of my favorites.

What is your favorite comic?

I don’t get a whole lot happier than when I am camping.  Truthfully, give me any reason not to bathe and I am in.  Gross?   Yes.  Liberating?  Without a doubt.   Did you know you can use the cardboard oil funnels at the gas station to pee standing up?  That tip is more helpful in nasty bars or in said gas stations than in nature I guess.  Good to know.

Tent camping is my preferred mode of roughing it.  If I could live in a tent for three months out of the year I would be a proverbial happy camper.  I am a lot more comfortable outside than in.  I am not sure what that’s about but it has always been this way.  Maybe in the open air I am restful.  Who knows?

Pops would take David and me up North when we were little kids.  I was more interested in reading my books and futzing around than fishing.  David would tell me about the constellations at night when the sky seemed forlorn.  I learned how to find the satellites, slowly making their way along the path.

The quiet and niceness of the moment and the universe fleeted as morning would stir.  It was nice to be still.  Now, the lights of the city compromise the night sky and I can get squirrely.  A couple of weeks ago I looked up and felt that quiet happiness and it was nice.

I have a theory about camping.  If you can set up a tent with your significant other without fighting, it is meant to be.  If you can’t, it is going to be a long weekend and a quiet car ride home.

Our tent broke last summer and we have yet to replace it. I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything.  Except that it’s broke.

I’ll get a new one next year.

Until then, here’s to camp fires, kabobs, beer, and dirty jokes.

And stillness.

10 Days

Summer has kicked off gloriously thus far (aside from all the fiery fire nastiness going on).  The goal for this summer was to get on out and do life stuff.  I have been trying to get out every day to enjoy a walk and get some of that good old D3.  It seems to help, plus there’s an area near us where the folks have horses.  So awesome.

Greek Fest in Denver was fun.  Delicious food was had and the cathedral dome is a stunning shade of blue.  This was the second year we went and it doesn’t disappoint.
For the first time, Bobaloo and I headed to Pride Fest We missed the parade but had fun hanging out.  There were a ton of people which was cool.
Last Friday we were up to Red Rocks to see Wilco.  It was a good show.  I am looking forward to Cake and Neil Young later in the season.
It's been in the hundreds around here lately so last Saturday we briefly di some gold-panning to cool off.  No nuggets found, I'm left getting rich the old-fashioned way.
Jennifer at Chronicles of Consciousness has gotten me interested in the 10 Day You Challenge.  Her blog is one of my absolute favorites.  Go ahead, check out the link to her blog above.

*I just moved the 10 Day Challenge a tab at the top.

Ugly Sweater You're The One

I went thrift store shopping last week and found a find that I couldn't pass up. Originally this treasure was $2.89, but I was lucky enough to get it half off.
This little number will go great sitting on the patio while reading.

Endings and Beginnings

I accepted the job in San Diego and in two and half weeks will be living there. Everything has been such a whirlwind. The hardest part was giving two weeks notice to a job that I really enjoy most days. It made me sick to my stomach to say farewell. Goodbyes are hard. I prefer them to be quick and painless, not long and drawn out.

It is hard to believe that I have two weeks to say goodbye to everyone and everything that has been so wonderful in Denver. However, it is real. The apartment is already loaded with boxes and planning has commenced.

I am excited to stay with my sister-in-law and nephew and have the opportunity to get to know them better. I am bummed and a little nervous to be away from my husband for a short time. I am jazzed about the new job and meeting new people and sad to leave such good friends behind.

What a mix of emotions.

I did it

I got the job in San Diego. Stay classy.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Well, I had a job interview for a job in San Diego yesterday. The interview went really well but I worry that they will choose someone who currently lives in the area. I am so nervous. I am trying not to build it up too much. However, if I get the job I will be a Californian by the end of the month. If not, we will still move there over the summer. Top 10 reasons to move to San Diego:
  1. I have family there.
  2. The city is more "happening" than Denver.
  3. The ocean.
  4. Dini's by the Sea.
  5. Ron Burgundy.
  6. The climate.
  7. Proximity to Mexico.
  8. It's a totally new scene.

I can't think of ten. Eight will just have to do. Keep your fingers crossed!

Let's Share

I was tagged on Facebook to do this. I thought I would bring it over here. Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you. Consider all of y'all tagged.
  1. When I was little, I wanted to be a dentist so I could drill out the teeth of my enemies. Sadist.
  2. I still have the phone numbers to Mr. Movies and Dominoes Pizza in Apple Valley, MN memorized.
  3. I got married on one of my best friend's birthday (Amy).
  4. I collect trolls, books, rocks, coins, etc. Stuff in general.
  5. I just learned to play catch two years ago. Well, sort of. I can play with a Frisbee, but still not a ball. Baby steps.
  6. I love the smell of hotels. And Sharpies.
  7. I love moving. Whether it be to a new state, city, or apartment. I hope to be living in California by the end of summer.
  8. I am a terrible cook. My husband does all of the cooking in our house. I make scrambled eggs in the microwave.
  9. I love to swim, even though I do not know how.
  10. I am almost finished at Red Rocks Community College. I hope to be at San Diego State by this time next year to study Spanish, English, or Linguistics, or a combination of them.
  11. I am a blogger and have four people who regularly read my blog. Yep, I am sure this makes me somewhat famous.
  12. I am a very shy and nervous person.
  13. If I were not so shy, I would start a band with my friends Jillian and Rachael. However, I do not know how we would do long-distance practices. Hmmm. I also do not know what the band name would be although I have TONS of great ideas!
  14. I am obsessive about brushing my teeth. My social paranoia is having food in them.
  15. I had my first legal beer with my dad at Shenanigans in Rosemount, MN and my first legal cocktail with my husband at Billy on Grand in St. Paul, MN.
  16. My younger brother Kyle will not be my friend on Facebook.
  17. For a skinny person, I am fanatical about food. I seriously love food more than life itself. I especially adore appetizers.
  18. I met my husband Bobaloo at a Halloween party. He was dressed as John Belushi from Animal House. I did not have a costume on.
  19. Three of our friends who were at the party we mat at were also at our Halloween wedding reception six years later to the date. http://picasaweb.google.com/ScrambledJill/TheWeddingReception?feat=directlink
  20. Since moving to Colorado, I have learned how to gold pan. It is a very relaxing and Zen-like activity.
  21. I have known most of my friends longer than I have not. I have known some friends longer than I have known my brother. I love them dearly.
  22. I love to read. I started with a list of 100 books to read before I die. I keep adding to the list so that I never have to die, there are about 230 books on my list to read now.
  23. I am a receptionist, which is somewhat hilarious because I am an introvert who does not like talking on the phone.
  24. Coca-Cola is my favorite beverage. Even when there's not rum in it.
  25. I took me a really long-ass time to come up with 25 things. Thanks for reading.
